Frequently Asked Questions
Is my customer and transaction CSV uploaded to any external server?
No. All CSV parsing, ZIP code matching, and tax rate lookups run entirely inside your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your file data never leaves your device. Only optional US Census geocoding queries send isolated street address strings to resolve ambiguous multi-county ZIP codes.
Why do some Ohio ZIP codes return multiple counties and rates?
Postal ZIP codes were created by the USPS to route mail, not to collect taxes. Over 530 Ohio ZIP codes cross county boundary lines (such as ZIP 43003 spanning Delaware and Morrow counties). Under Ohio law, sales tax must be charged based on the exact taxing jurisdiction, so ambiguous ZIP codes require street address verification.
How does the tool handle historical dates and scheduled rate changes?
The tool uses our date-aware tax engine. For example, Warren County's rate changed from 6.75% to 7.25% on October 1, 2026. If your CSV includes transaction dates, purchases dated September 30, 2026 or earlier are calculated at 6.75%, while transactions on or after October 1, 2026 receive the current 7.25% rate.
What is the maximum file size or row limit?
The free in-browser tool supports up to 5,000 rows per batch. For larger enterprise datasets or programmatic real-time validation via API, see our Premium developer tools.
